How Sandblasting Works

Sandblasting — dry abrasive blasting — fires a stream of abrasive at the surface under pressure. The abrasive cuts away paint, rust, mill scale, old coatings and grime, leaving clean metal, stone or wood ready for coating or refinishing. It's the fastest way to strip a surface down to bare, and it leaves a slight profile that helps coatings bond. Most powder coating jobs start with blasting for exactly that reason — the finish is only as good as what's under it. For painted brick, graffiti, pools, soda, glass bead, corn cob, walnut shell and log homes, see our dustless and media blasting page. For structural steel, plant equipment, heavy equipment and fleets, see our industrial sandblasting page. For car frames, see wheel and automotive powder coating.

Proud to Serve Pearland & the Bay Area

We serve customers from Pearland across Brazoria, Harris and Fort Bend counties. Mobile blasting comes to your home, business, marina, plant or job site.

What's Included

Metal Sand Blasting

Strips paint, rust and mill scale off steel and iron, leaving clean metal ready to coat.

Concrete, Stone, Granite & Brick

Cleans and etches hard surfaces — driveways, pavers, signs and stone.

Wood

Strips old stain and paint off fences, beams, furniture and signs with the right soft media.

Trucks, Trailers & Boat Trailers

Strips frames and trailers down to bare metal before coating.

Why This Matters Here

Rust is the enemy down here. The Houston area's hot, humid subtropical climate with muggy air most of the year speeds up rust on bare and chipped steel, and salt air off Galveston Bay makes it worse. Trailers, fences and outdoor metal that sit through hurricanes, tropical storms and flooding — Hurricane Ike in 2008, Harvey in 2017, Beryl in 2024 — end up with layers of old paint and rust that blasting is the only way to get off right. Sandblasting strips it all down to bare metal so the new coating actually bonds.

Care & Prevention

After blasting and coating, rinse metal items with fresh water and mild soap, more often near the bay. Keep up with touch-ups on any chips before rust creeps under the finish. For trailers and outdoor metal, a fresh-water rinse after rain and a coating maintenance check each season goes a long way on the Gulf Coast.

Surfaces We Blast

Sandblasting Concrete, Stone, Granite & Brick

We clean and etch concrete driveways, stone and granite surfaces, and brick — stripping grime and old coatings and leaving a clean, profiled surface. Softer surfaces like brick and stone get the right media and pressure so they don't pit.

Sandblasting Wood

Fences, beams, furniture and signs — we strip old stain and paint off wood with soft media that cleans without gouging. Wood needs a lighter touch than metal, and we choose the media for it.

Metal Sand Blasting

Steel and iron parts, frames and fabrications — stripped to bare metal, ready for powder coating or paint.

Truck, Trailer & Boat-Trailer Sandblasting

Frames and trailers stripped of rust and old paint before coating — the prep that makes the new finish last.

Sandblasted Lettering & Designs in Granite & Stone

Beyond stripping, sandblasting can carve lettering and designs into granite and stone — signs, pavers and headstone lettering, for example. The abrasive cuts a clean, lasting recess into hard stone. If you have a stone sign, a paver or a memorial piece that needs lettering, call and we'll talk through what's involved.

What Sandblasting Costs

What affects the cost: the size of the surface, how much old paint, rust and coating has to come off, the substrate — metal, stone, concrete or wood — the media and pressure needed, masking, and travel distance for mobile work. We quote every job after we see it.

Job typePriceWhat affects it
Metal parts / framesQuoted after we see itSize, rust, coating layers, media
Truck or trailer frameQuoted after we see itSize, condition, coating layers
Concrete / stone / brickQuoted after we see itArea, substrate, grime level
Wood (fence, beams, furniture)Quoted after we see itArea, wood type, old stain/paint
Stone lettering / engravingQuoted after we see itStone type, lettering, design

Price depends on the size of the surface, how much old coating and rust must come off, the substrate, the media and pressure needed, masking, and travel distance for mobile work. Your exact price is set after we see it.

What to Expect

  1. 1

Call or send a photo. Tell us the surface and what's on it.

  2. 2

We quote it based on size, condition and media.

  3. 3

We blast it clean — in the shop or on-site.

  4. 4

Pick-up, delivery or on-site wrap-up, confirmed when you book.

Is this the right fit? The right method is decided after we see the item or surface. Some items may not suit a given process — for example thin sheet metal, plastic, glass, rubber or cast parts that may warp, pit or outgas, or items with lead paint that need special handling. Send a photo or call and we'll tell you straight.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to sandblast a vehicle?

There's no flat price. The cost depends on the size of the vehicle or frame, how much old paint, rust and undercoating has to come off, the condition of the metal underneath, and whether it's a frame on stands or a whole vehicle. We quote every job after we see it, so send a photo and you'll get a straight number.

Can sandblasting remove paint?

Yes — removing paint is one of the main things sandblasting does. Dry abrasive blasting strips paint, rust, mill scale, old coatings and grime down to bare metal. How aggressive we go depends on the substrate, because softer metals and surfaces need lighter media and pressure.

Can you sandblast plastic?

Not with traditional sandblasting — regular abrasive is too aggressive for most plastics and will warp or pit them. For delicate surfaces like plastic, fiberglass and thin metals, we use softer media like soda, plastic media or walnut shell. See our dustless and media blasting page for those options. The method is always chosen after we see the part.

What's the difference between sandblasting and powder coating?

Sandblasting is the prep — it strips the surface down to bare metal. Powder coating is the finish — it's sprayed on and cured in an oven into a hard coating. They're two different steps, and most powder coating jobs start with blasting so the powder bonds to clean metal.

Does powder coating include sandblasting?

Most powder coating jobs start with blasting to clean the part to bare metal, but blasting and coating are separate steps with separate costs. We'll tell you exactly what your job needs when we quote it.
